{"id":1089,"date":"2002-12-30T22:44:43","date_gmt":"2002-12-30T22:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/houseofnehesipublish.com\/sxm\/?p=1089"},"modified":"2015-05-12T22:45:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T22:45:47","slug":"st-martin-car-to-carry-national-flag-in-paris-dakar-car-rally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/houseofnehesipublish.com\/sxm\/2002\/12\/30\/st-martin-car-to-carry-national-flag-in-paris-dakar-car-rally\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Martin car to carry national flag in Paris-Dakar car rally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Marigot\/Great Bay, St. Martin\u00a0<\/strong>(December 30, 2002) \u2014 When the St. Martin racing car takes to the starting line for the 25<sup>th<\/sup> annual Paris-Dakar rally in Marseille, France, on New Year\u2019s day, January 1, 2003, it will have stickers of the St. Martin national flag highlighted on its body.<\/p>\n<p>Shujah Reiph, president of Conscious Lyrics Foundation, presented the national symbol of St. Martin, which is also called the unity flag or the people\u2019s flag, to the car\u2019s co-pilot Eric H\u00e9lan, said Lydia Arnell, secretary of the foundation.<\/p>\n<p>When he received the flag stickers, H\u00e9lan said that \u201cSt. Martin should be proud of this historic opportunity, these nationals symbols say a lot to us because when we are going over there it is to represent St. Martin, both sides of the island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e9lan, a teacher at the mechanical department at the Lyc\u00e9e or technical college in Marigot, was the driving force behind St. Martin\u2019s first participation in the Paris-Dakar car race. The participating vehicle was pre-pared in Marigot by his Lyc\u00e9e students. H\u00e9lan also confirmed that a delegation of 35 teachers and students are expected join the racers in Egypt for the last leg of the race.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since its launch in August 1990, the flag symbol has taken on a life of its own \u201cas sports groups, churches, and many individuals have used it proudly, representing St. Martin all over the island and the globe,\u201d said Arnell.
