Martin\u00a0<\/strong>(June\u00a03, 2003)<strong>\u2014<\/strong> High-profile lawyer Richard Gibson will be the guest speaker for the launch of\u00a0<em>1963 \u2013 A Landmark Year in St. Martin<\/em> by Daniella Jeffry on Saturday, June 7, at the Jubilee Library at 8 PM. \u201cAnd guests and readers could be more than highly pleased with the composite slices of people, places and developments revealed in the book,\u201d said Jacqueline Sample, president of House of Nehesi, the book\u2019s publisher.<\/p>\n<p>The curiosity about pinpointing one particular year as the start of modern St. Martin is already causing people to approach Jeffry about, \u201cwhy 1963?\u201d said Sample, \u201cAnd we are curious to see how Mr. Gibson will introduce the book without giving away too many of the exciting and textured parts that will actually make many of us feel, see and touch what was going on in those days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>n fact, a number of the people mentioned in the book are still alive and a number of their family members and businesses are still making history today. \u201cThe thesis of books like\u00a0<em>1963<\/em> is the stuff of a winning Ph.D. for a scholar. But everyone wins when we can make it part of popular reading for the pride of a nation and the power of identity and inspiration for progress of all of St. Martin\u2019s people,\u201d added Lasana M. Sekou, House of Nehesi\u2019s projects director.<\/p>\n<p>effry, a leading educator\/historian\u00a0has divided\u00a0<em>1963 \u2013 A Landmark Year in St. Martin<\/em> into three chapters, \u201cOld St. Martin,\u201d \u201cPeople &amp; Places in 1963\u201d and \u201cChanges in 1963.\u201d The timeline-like cover design by Angelo Rombley gives the book a scratchboard classic look and the many photos integrated into the text by Sundiata Lake gives the 206-page book the look and feel of a family photo album.<\/p>\n<p>At the book party the author will read selections and autograph copies of the new title.
