Professor Hongo\u2019s Japanese and Hawaiian heritages make up only part of what we\u2019ll experience from him and his books on his first Caribbean trip,\u201d said Shujah Reiph, book fair coordinator and Conscious Lyrics (CLF) president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrancis Bok, from South Sudan is coming with his book,\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Escape from Slavery.<\/span> In his autobiography this dignified gentleman tells about how he was kidnapped as a child, on the way to the food market for his mother, and forced into slavery for ten years. Today he is a leading abolitionist against slavery and \u2018child soldier\u2019 kidnappings,\u201d said Reiph following Saturday\u2019s Book Fair Committee meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEce Temelkuran, an exciting novelist of 12 books is heading our way. She\u2019s one of Turkey\u2019s \u2018most read political columnists.\u2019 Her columns appear in international media such as\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">The Guardian<\/span> and\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Le Monde Diplomatique<\/span>. Temelkuran, who delivered the 4<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">th <\/span>Freedom Lecture in Amsterdam, has\u00a0seen the blood on the ground from the political murder of a fellow journalist and has been fired from the\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Haberturk <\/span>newspaper for reporting on what this brave writer calls\u00a0\u2018the prime minister\u2019s war on journalists, and \u2026 on the rights of the Kurdish people\u2019,\u201d said Reiph.<\/p>\n<p>The St. Martin Book Fair is organized by CLF and HNP in collaboration with its strategic partner the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau and with the University of St. Martin (USM).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the next few weeks, look out for the names of more heavyweight authors and upcoming writers heading for the St. Martin Book Fair, \u2018A book fair for the entire family\u2019,\u201d said Reiph.<\/p>\n<p>Talking about family, with the second carnival season just over, rest up the kiddies because \u201cOn Saturday, June 7, which is the main book fair day at USM, the annual Children\u2019s Room will fit the festival\u2019s theme as well. The Children\u2019s Room organizer plans to ask parents to have each child come dressed as the child\u2019s favorite super hero or heroine,\u201d said Reiph.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also encouraging contributors and patrons of the nation\u2019s arts to join us in building up the literary festival on the Friendly Island.
