{"id":561,"date":"2005-05-03T14:52:53","date_gmt":"2005-05-03T14:52:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/houseofnehesipublish.com\/sxm\/?p=561"},"modified":"2015-04-27T14:53:15","modified_gmt":"2015-04-27T14:53:15","slug":"mutabaruka-and-kwame-dawes-at-3rd-st-martin-book-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/houseofnehesipublish.com\/sxm\/2005\/05\/03\/mutabaruka-and-kwame-dawes-at-3rd-st-martin-book-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"Mutabaruka and Kwame Dawes at 3rd St. Martin Book Fair."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><strong>MARIGOT\/GREAT BAY\u00a0(May 3, 2005)<\/strong> \u2014<\/span> Popular recording poet Mutabaruka and award-wining author Kwame Dawes are participating in the 3<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">rd<\/span> annual St. Martin Book Fair, June 2 \u2013 4, 2005, said Shujah Reiph.<\/p>\n<p>The high-profiled Mutabaruka will conduct the Book Fair\u2019s poetry workshop, \u201csharing his craft,\u201d said Reiph, spokesman for the Book Fair Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuta will also sign his new book,\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">The Next Poems\/The First Poems<\/span>, for the book fair public.\u201d\u00a0The much sought after Jamaica poet just took part in Guadeloupe\u2019s book fair.<\/p>\n<p>Kwame Dawes will deliver the Book Fair\u2019s opening address, based on this year\u2019s theme, \u201cThe national book, a universal offering \u2026 ,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0said Reiph.<\/p>\n<p>Dawes, a distinguished poet and Bob Marley scholar, is the author or editor of 18 books of poetry, plays, short stories, essays and music and literary criticism.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dawes will also address one of the book fair\u2019s general sessions and workshop with high school teachers of literature and English. The professor of English at the University of South Carolina, USA, has seen produced some 15 of his plays in the Caribbean and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The St. Martin Book Fair will host some nine dynamic authors, poets, novelists, playwrights, scholars, and a movie\/video game animator<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least four of our invited authors will take part in book signings,\u201d\u00a0said Reiph. Dawes\u2019 most recent books,\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">I saw your face<\/span> (poetry, 2005) and\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Bob Marley \u2013 Lyrical Genius<\/span> (essays, lyrical criticism, 2002), would be available.<\/p>\n<p>The St. Martin Book Fair opens on June 2, 2005 at the Maison des Entreprises (Chamber of Commerce Building) in Spring Concordia, Marigot.<\/p>\n<p>The book exhibitions, sales, signings, and workshops will be at the University of St. Martin in Philipsburg, St. Martin, on June 3 and June 4.<\/p>\n<p>The fair\u2019s main book launch features\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">The Angel Horn<\/span>, the long awaited anthology of poems by the late Shake Keane of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Keane is a national hero of SVG and one of the grand men of Caribbean literature.
