GREAT BAY, St. Martin (March 13, 2005<\/strong>) \u2014 <\/span>Last Sunday the\u00a0Culture Time<\/span> host Fabian Badejo said on PJD-2 radio that the St. Martin Book Fair should now be called the St. Martin International Book Fair.<\/p>\n

He had good reason to make such a statement. Only in its third year, the St. Martin Book Fair is set to host over seven authors from the\u00a0Caribbean,\u00a0USA, the\u00a0Middle East, and\u00a0China.<\/p>\n

One of the literary celebrities headed for book fair 2005 is Nidaa Khoury. The author of eight books is the special guest poet at the main book launch and closing ceremony of the book fair on June 4.<\/p>\n

The featured book at the launch is House of Nehesi\u2019s newest title, said its projects director, Lasana M. Sekou. The book is called\u00a0The Angel Horn<\/span>, an anthology of six never-before published volumes of poetry by the late great Shake Keane from\u00a0St. Vincent\u00a0& The Grenadines. Dr. Margaret Bynoe, Keane\u2019s widow who works at Yale University School of Medicine, plans to attend the book party at Great Bay Beach Hotel.<\/p>\n

Khoury will recite her work in Arabic with an immediate English translation by another reader. She will also participate in the first House of Nehesi Publishers writer\u2019s retreat from June 2 to June 9.<\/p>\n

The leading Palestinian and\u00a0Middle East\u00a0poet hails from the\u00a0Upper Galilee\u00a0village\u00a0of\u00a0Fassota\u00a0in\u00a0Israel.<\/p>\n

Khoury has published seven books of poetry, several of which have been translated from Arabic to other languages.\u00a0The <\/span>Barefoot<\/span> River<\/span> (1990) was published in Arabic and Hebrew.\u00a0The Bitter Crown<\/span> (1997) was censored inJordan\u00a0and reprinted as\u00a0Rings of Salt<\/span> in 1998.<\/p>\n

She has participated in the Conference of Arab Poets (Amsterdam), the Conference of Human Rights and Solidarity with the\u00a0Third World\u00a0(Paris), Poetry Africa, (Durban), and the International Poetry Festival of Medellin (Colombia).<\/p>\n

Other books of poetry by Khoury include\u00a0The Prettiest of Gods Cry <\/span>(2000),\u00a0The Culture of Wine <\/span>(1993), The Belt of Wind <\/span>(1990),\u00a0Braid of Thunder <\/span>(1989), and\u00a0Declaring My Silence <\/span>(1987).<\/p>\n

House of Nehesi Publishers has scheduled a new Khoury poetry collection for publication in\u00a0St. Martin, which could make her the first important\u00a0Middle East\u00a0author to publish in the\u00a0Caribbean.<\/p>\n
