GREAT BAY (March 6, 2000) — Well before the workday got underway on Monday, March 6, 2000, copies of the book An Introduction to Government – Island territory of St. Maarten by Louis Duzanson was sold out at Van Dorp and other book outlets and had to be re-stocked by day’s end.

“I think the people of St. Martin are responding to a book that is answering a serious and basic need to focus on the political structures that are governing their lives,” said J. Sample, vice president of House of Nehesi Publishers. An Introduction to Government looks like it could be House of Nehesi’s third popular title in less than one year on political ideas, activities, and structures in St. Martin.

And while the people are making space in their homes, schools, and work places for An Introduction to Government, another St. Martin book is getting attention from abroad. According to correspondence reaching the publisher only hours after the launch of An Introduction to Government, Edgar and Julian Lynch, the authors of Know Your Political History, recently received a royal word of thanks.

The word of thanks came from E. Rhodius, director of the Cabinet of Dutch Queen, thanking the Lynch brothers on behalf of Queen Beatrix for the copy of Know Your Political History that they had sent to her. Rhodius’ official letter was sent to H. van Diemen, the Dutch government representative here. Know Your Political History was published in December 1999, and ran out of stock at Van Dorp a couple of times in the first week of sales alone
