GREAT BAY, St. Martin (November 21, 2002) — The MAVO department of the MPC high school has sponsored three of its teachers for the creative writing course being offered by House of Nehesi Publishers from January 7 until July 8, 2003.
“We commend Mrs. Oldine Bryson, principal of the MAVO, who, like her colleague Mr. Alvin Rombley of the MTS/LTS, has long shown concrete confidence in the writers and books published by House of Nehesi.
“The teachers will be able to improve their own writing and pass on course information to their students. At the same time, they are setting a practical example to youngsters about the value of continuing education,” said Lasana M. Sekou, projects director at House of Nehesi.
With the December 2 deadline for registration fast approaching, one communications company has also sponsored an applicant to take the course being dubbed as a 6-month program “for the writing time of your life!” The program is open to people who are new to writing or have been writing for some time.
The venue for the creative writing course will be the spacious Comm Systems conference room at Wellington Road 15, Cole Bay. “The response so far is exciting,” said Jacqueline Sample, House of Nehesi’s president. “More than half of the class is already filled; . . . we welcome the mini-scholarships from MAVO and business, and we are very happy that most applicants are sponsoring themselves.”
The course is limited to 20 participants and applicants are being encouraged to apply and deposit the $200 registration fee by December 2, 2002. Application forms containing registration information can be obtained at the public libraries in St. Martin, Saba and St. Eustatius, at Van Dorp, Arnia and Paper Garden bookstores or from the course instructors Fabian Badejo, Rhoda Arrindell, Pedro de Weever and Lasana M. Sekou.
