COLE BAY, St. Martin (January 5, 2003)— The Creative Writing Program (CWP) of House of Nehesi Publishers Foundation opens at the Comm Realty Conference hall at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 7.
The participants and the four instructors that will be spending the next six months together on a journey of writing will meet for the first time at the orientation. “The participants will receive their information kit bag of the course program, a welcome gift, required reading material, reading-and-writing promotional samples; and sign in to begin the course,” said Jacqueline Sample, president of House of Nehesi.
A few guests, such as the Bardfields of Comm Realty, writers set to publish with House of Nehesi in 2003, and a representative of the main sponsor, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, were invited to stop by and share in the light refreshments and chat with the participants at the CWP reception. The writing program’s first session, “Introduction to literature,” will begin at 7pm—for the registered participants. A last minute rush to join the course pushed the class-size beyond the 20-member limit, but within what is manageable, said Sample. “The AVS TV News recently signed up one of its reporters and a news anchor. The Royal Bank of Trinidad & Tobago sponsored one of its managerial-level employees and a high school graduate from the community,” added Lasana M. Sekou, coordinator of the CWP.
“We are glad that both companies are involved in supporting the varied programs of NGOs,” said Sekou. “AVS and RBTT are investing in the type of continuing education of employees that could inform job performance and enhance quality personal choices.”
