GREAT BAY, St. Martin (December 7, 2004)Graphic specialist Angelo Rombley will give what is thought to be the island’s first digital art workshop here on December 29 at the UTS Multipurpose Room, said Jacqueline Sample of House of Nehesi Publishers.

Rombley will be home for the holidays but it will not be all play and rest before he heads back to the USA. “Angelo will share new industry tips and secrets of the trade with professionals, generally interested persons, and those thinking about careers or a hobby in computer graphic imaging and even game design,” said Sample.

“We are really excited about the part of the workshop dealing with digital art.

This is for the creative artist or painter who wants to branch out or wants to know what’s new in the field. It is for the art student who wants to use their computer to paint and create serious new art.

“As for young people who want to get a feel for designing games for X-box, PlayStation, and Nintendo instead of just being the consumers all of the time? The workshop is a chance for some insights or to get some questions answered.

“Digital art is definitely the future. It is mixing audio-visual art and design using computer graphics and digital technology.

“Angelo is a top St. Martiner in this area. He can compete anywhere in the world and has an introductory selection of creative work out there as a professional.”

Along with his private digital art pieces, Rombley has produced book covers, book designs, book page art, and posters with high-end graphic designs and cutting-edge digital images for House of Nehesi Publishers since 1997.

His newest digital artwork is “dark man coming” for the book cover of The Salt Reaper – Poems from the flats(2004). Even book reviewers can’t help but mention his cover and exclusive illustrations in Words Need Love Too (2000) by Kamau Brathwaite. His total design of St. Martin Massive! (2000) definitely helped to make that book a hit with young and old and a favorite gift-book.

Rombley is based in Florida where he is a graduate of the International Fine Arts College and is a graphic artist with a Diversified Automotive Company. He is the eldest son of Pedro and Louise Rombley and the brother of Andrew Rombley.

The upcoming digital art workshop, a cultural/educational two-part mini-project of House of Nehesi Publishers, is funded by SUNFED.
